Lakers one win from sailing into Great Lakes final

The Wallaceburg Lakers rebounded from their first loss of the playoffs to move to within one victory from the Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League final.
The Lakers defeated the Dresden Kings 6-1 on Monday at the Lambton-Kent Memorial Arena to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the North Division final.
Wallaceburg can clinch the series and earn a berth in the finals with a win in Game 5 on home ice Wednesday, a 7:30 p.m. face-off.
Hawks seeded third, Panthers sixth at OFSAA

The Chatham-Kent Golden Hawks are seeded third and the McGregor Panthers sixth at their respective Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations girls volleyball tournaments.
The Kent champion Golden Hawks are in Stratford for the OFSAA ‘AAA’ tournament while the Panthers are in Perth for the ‘AA’ provincial championships.
Both teams play round-robin games on Tuesday, leading to Wednesday’s playoff and medal games.
Ballhawks U-17s find silver lining in Hamilton
The Chatham Ballhawks under-17 women’s team won silver medals at the McGregor Cup volleyball tournament in Hamilton on the weekend.
The Ballhawks finished third in pool play with a 1-3 record.
Chatham was swept by the Halton Hurricanes (22-25, 17-25) and split with the Oakville Thunder (19-25, 25-22).
Jones could miss rest of season after knee-on-knee
Chatham’s Ryan Jones could possibly miss the rest of the NHL season, according to the Edmonton Sun and Edmonton Journal.
Jones was injured 7:29 into his first game as an Edmonton Oiler on Friday night after a knee-on-knee collision with Derek Boogaard of the Minnesota Wild.
Boogaard received a two-game suspension from the NHL. He will be eligible to return on Thursday when the Wild visit the Detroit Red Wings.
The 25-year-old Jones, however, likely won’t get a chance to make an impression with his new team until next season.
Legionnaires’ five-goal first spoils Maroons’ party plans
Gervais’ OT goal puts Maroons on brink of clincher
Gabe Gervais’ power-play goal 1:09 into sudden death gave the Chatham Maroons a 3-2 win over the Sarnia Legionnaires on Saturday at the Sarnia Arena.
The win gives the Maroons a commanding 3-1 lead in the GOJHL Western Conference quarterfinal.
The Maroons can clinch the series with a win in Game 5 on Sunday, a 7 p.m. faceoff at Memorial Arena.
