Novices win series opener; Minor Midgets to face Brampton
The Chatham Major Novice Maroons extended their perfect playoff record with a 4-0 victory over Amherstburg on Saturday at Thames Campus Arena.
The win gives the Maroons a 2-0 lead in the second round of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association ‘AA’ playoffs.
Game 2 is Friday in Amherstburg, with the series coming back to Thames Campus Arena for the third game on Saturday at 12 noon.

Lucas Fancy scored twice to lead the Maroons while Evan Wells had a goal and an assist and Ryen Stevens a goal.
Bailey Smith picked up two assists while Jared Eaton, Kirsten Horney and Connor Wright all had single helpers.
Noah Legary turned in the shutout.
The Novices swept LaSalle in three straight games from the first round.
Meanwhile, the Minor Midget Maroons will host Brampton in the first two games of their OMHA ‘AA’ quarter-final series next weekend at Thames Campus.
Game 1 is Saturday, 5:15 p.m., with the second game on Sunday, 4 p.m.
The series goes back to Brampton for Games 3 and 4 on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20.
Game 5, if necessary, comes back to Thames Campus on Sunday, Feb. 21.
The Minor Midgets have already eliminated Tecumseh, Belle River and Windsor with a combined 6-1-1 record.
Havens, Koopmans lead Minor Atoms’ shutout win
Caleb Havens scored twice and assisted on the other goal as the Chatham Minor Atom Maroons blanked Riverside 3-0 on Saturday in their first game of the Bluewater Hockey League round-robin playoffs.
Tyler Mullins had the other Chatham goal while Aiden Anjema picked up an assist. Havens’ second goal was an empty-netter to ice the victory.
Kyle Koopmans had the shutout.
The Minor Atoms defeated Tilbury 4-1 in an exhibition game on Sunday.
Anjema and Havens had a goal and an assist each while Cameron Wheeler and Ryley Hammond also scored. Xander Parks had two assists and Mullins one.
Teeuwen, Barstead trigger Atom AEs’ rout over LaSalle
Nicholas Teeuwen scored twice and Liam Barstead stopped all 15 shots he faced as the Chatham AE Maroons blanked LaSalle 7-0 on Sunday at Thames Campus in their first Bluewater Hockey League round-robin playoff game.
Justin Doran added a goal and two assists while Josh Farrugia, Zak Brodie and Liam Miller all had a goal and an assist. Matt Farrugia also scored while Cedric Dubois had three assists.
The Maroons scored twice in the first and second periods before closing out LaSalle with a three-goal third.
